How much you may be owed
| Flight | Compensation | Fee (15%) | You keep |
|---|---|---|---|
| Up to 1,500 km | €250 | €37.50 | €212.50 |
| Within the EU over 1,500 km, and others of 1,500 to 3,500 km | €400 | €60 | €340 |
| All others | €600 | €90 | €510 |
The amount is per passenger and comes from Article 7 of Regulation (EC) 261/2004. The airline can cut it in half if it offers alternative transport arriving within the limits of Article 7(2). On flights over 3,500 km outside the EU with a delay of 3 to 4 hours, the amount is €300.
When you are entitled
The flight must leave from an EU airport, or arrive in the EU with a European airline. Norway, Iceland and Switzerland also count, and the UK has its own rule with amounts in pounds. The arrival delay must be at least 3 hours. For a cancellation, you are normally entitled if you were told less than 14 days before, unless you were offered an alternative within the times set by the Regulation.
Time limit
According to AESA, the Spanish air safety agency, you have five years from the flight date to claim from the airline. You must claim from the airline first and, if it does not reply or you disagree, go to AESA.
